Stanford-bound Student Bags Prestegious Singapore Scholarship

[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]esterday, the Scholarship Foundation awarded the prestigious Patrick Turner scholarship to Michelle Bich-Ngoc Nguyen who will be embarking on her MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, this fall.

The scholarship, named in the memory and honor of INSEAD entrepreneurship professor Patrick Turner, was awarded by Prof. Philip Anderson, the Academic Director of the INSEAD International Centre for Entrepreneurship, founded by Prof. Turner.

The agenda included panel discussions of INSEAD alumni entrepreneurs and venture capitalists respectively. The event also featured Google APAC CMO Simon Kahn, who shared his insights on Google’s innovation culture.

The scholarship was made possible by a generous grant from Admissions.SG and GMAT Zone, Singapore’s leading business school admissions consultancy and GMAT prep course respectively. Nagitha Kumarasinghe, the CEO of the organization, commented, “As a company, we wanted to give back to Singapore, and especially to local students who are interested in business education but might find the cost a little daunting.”

About Prof. Patrick Turner

Prof. Patrick Turner inspired countless students to pursue their passion in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. Prof. Turner’s career included long stints at ICI and Levi Strauss Europe. He left Levi’s as Marketing Director, Spain to launch his own jeans marketing company, subsequently acquiring and managing another small company. In 1999 he joined INSEAD as Professor of entrepreneurship. He taught at INSEAD Fontainebleau and Singapore campuses, and in Reykjavik, France, Spain, Estonia, and South America. In January 2003, he founded the INSEAD International Centre for Entrepreneurship. He was a member of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE), launched by the Singapore government. Prof. Turner held a BA from Oxford University, and an MBA from INSEAD.

About the Patrick Turner Scholarship

The Patrick Turner Scholarship for Innovation and Entrepreneurship aims to help partially alleviate the cash-concerns of candidates planning to join business school with the intention of starting a career in innovation or entrepreneurship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the candidate must have secured admission to a Master’slevel programme (e.g. MBA, EMBA, MiM, MSMS, MFin, etc) at a business schools with a top full-time MBA program, as per Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings.

One scholarship is awarded each year. The scholarship Board that chose the winner of the inaugural scholarship comprised of INSEAD professors Henrich Greve, Balagopal Vissa, and Hongwei Xu.
